this piece has a really alluring look to it. The main thing that draws you into the picture is the eyes; as i write this critique i still can't stop looking at them. The robes tattered effect works very well and the colour added to it gives a great warmth and coldness to the picture as a whole. I really like the hands, hands are very hard to do right but the artist has really pulled it off, also the minor details like the pattern on the arm brace it really gives the picture that little extra something which makes it such a magnificent picture.

Your expressions are simply amazing. The tense lips and the level gaze are ferocious - this character will NOT be backing down. The darkness on the face works on several levels - whether intended as tattoos or other decoration, or whether it's simply metaphorically illustrating the darkness taking over him - and direct the viewer's eye towards the character's gaze.
Interestingly, they also hide the brow hairs a bit (google search about the psychological effect of that; Brad Dourif shaved his when he played Wormtongue in Lord of the Rings, to creep people out), which works well, and when I look closely, I find that his brow/forehead is exaggerated ominously. Having the darkness keeps the larger brow from popping out (no pun intended, lol) too fast to the viewer's eye, and thus keeps it from looking cartoonish. Well done there!

The hand by the cheek is great; nice touch with the dirt in the shadowed area.

The hand below was a little distracting to me. I found myself wondering whether it's tilted the wrong way (ie, I think index finger should be closer to the body and pinky farther out) - I could turn my hand to match the photo but it's a little awkward. It also seems larger than the other - even when adjusting for perspective - and the veins draw the eye. In this case, I consider that a flaw because the face and other hand should be receiving more of the attention!

Altogether, it's an amazing image and I'm really glad I clicked on the "currently popular" link today!
